Hi, I’m Chris, an Economics student here at York. I’m currently doing a Placement Year working as an Assurance Associate at Ernst & Young.
Why did you decide to do a placement?
I chose to do an internship to find out what I enjoyed in respect to work. Also hoping to improve my career prospects, and a placement specifically as I felt a whole year would allow me more responsibility in a role.
How did you find the opportunity?
I felt I got a great insight into what working life is like, and had a lot of responsibility that allowed me to keep track of my own work.
What’s your typical day?
I used a lot of Excel generally, looking through financial data for the clients, and meeting with the clients, while working in a team with others.
What did you get out of it?
I learnt what career path I want to be on, while learning what corporate life is like, and the responsibilities that come with being organised, and that networking is extremely important.
How has it influenced your future career options?
My placement at EY allowed me to understand that I’m more interested in Investment Banking and Private Equity, and confirms what I thought I was more interested in before the placement. However, I have still found this placement extremely useful for my development.
