By going through just a handful of the wonderful things to look forward to here, I’m hoping to convince you that you’ve made a great decision coming into Electronic Engineering.
When you first begin in Electronic Engineering, attending lectures and laboratories, you’ll immediately be greeted with people in the exact same position as you, working towards the same graduation!
All your brand new coursemates wouldn’t be on the same course as you without a big interest in Electronic Engineering too! You’re going to have to have at least one big connection with every single person there. This gives you so many chances to make new friends, revision buddies, and all in all people who you can walk all the way to the end of your degree with!
Working with new and interesting equipment
I’m sure many of you coming into this degree are new to Electronic Engineering as a whole, as you don’t require any background knowledge in Electronic Engineering to join here. However, even if you do have a background working with circuitry and soldering, I can guarantee our labs have so many more new pieces of equipment for you to work with!
There’s a well equipped nanotechnology laboratory and some fantastic teaching laboratories, with six brand new soldering irons, power supplies, oscilloscopes, and signal generators, there is so much to work with, so much to further your knowledge regarding Electronic Engineering, and have a great time along the way.
At the University of York, our clubs for various hobbies and activities are known as societies, or socs. ShockSoc is the society for Electronics lovers, who want to go further into Electronics related activities beyond your degree. ShockSoc put in place regular laboratory sessions, providing small Electronics projects for you to purchase and build during these sessions. For example, you could build a 3D LED cube, or a guitar pedal! It’s all really good fun.
On top of this, they help greatly with employment. They advertise career advice sessions as well as frequent helpful emails regarding opportunities after your graduation. They’re always striving to help anyone and everyone achieve the very best they can with their degree.
They also love to host regular social events, such as a great open mic night where you can get up and perform if that’s your thing!
These are just three of many different reasons to look forward to Electronic Engineering at York. I hope after reading, you’ll look forward to discovering all the other great things when you start your degree here.
