Online induction
At the York Graduate Research School induction, you will be introduced to the professional support available to you as a postgraduate researcher (PGR). Hear from PGR Administration, the Library, IT, Careers and Placements and more. It’s also a chance to meet some of our current PGRs and alumni, our college and Graduate Student Union reps, and get a sense of what your time will be like with us.

PGR Buddies
The PGR Buddy Scheme helps new PGRs connect to an existing PGR. Your buddy is matched to you and will help you settle into the York research experience, will provide a friendly welcome, and help you to get to know the University and the city of York. All our PGR Buddies are trained to be an ambassador for the University and for excellent research.
Application deadline: 5pm, Monday 27 September 2021
If you apply after the deadline, we’ll do our best to match you with a buddy later in the Autumn Term.
GSA Welcome Week
Check out events hosted by the Graduate Students’ Association (GSA) to welcome you to York. There’s something for everyone – from formal dinners to the Welcome Festival, with plenty of online options, casual day time events, and postgrad sports involved, too. Welcome Week takes place from Monday 20 September and is followed by two weeks of events run by GSA student-led networks.
