What’s on offer?
This workshop is to answer the question, “How can York Reach a Just Transition to Net Zero?” from the perspective of young people. The goal is to work with young people in York to find out about their communities, what they think are the key barriers and assets towards reaching net zero, and what they need to assist in this transition. This three-hour, paid workshop will be run by researchers and university students at the University of York.
Participants will be paid £60 in vouchers for attending the event and contributing their knowledge. We will also provide tea, coffee, and food.
What’s it about?
This event is designed for 16 – 25 year olds currently residing in York and will interest anyone keen to discuss their local communities, climate change, net zero, and social justice. Participants can expect to learn about net zero, what a ‘just transition’ is, learn from their fellow participants about York, and walk away knowing their contributions will filter into a wider project that will make a difference in how the UK moves towards net zero.
No previously knowledge about climate change or net zero is necessary to sign up for the event; we will provide information about net zero and just transition at the event. Please do come prepared to share your ideas and insights about how York can become a better place to live.
“An output from this will be a manifesto driven by you which will be brought to COP27 and policy leaders at the national level across the UK”
This is a condensed version of our workshop series from the ‘Understanding family and community vulnerabilities in transition to net zero’ project, which is a collaboration of the University of York, University of Leeds, Trinity College Dublin, and the Young Foundation, as funded by the Nuffield Foundation.
