Moving to university might be your first chance to cook independently and experiment. Don’t worry if you’re not sure where to start: here’s my go-to recipe after a day at uni.
I have made this salmon pasta for some of my friends that don’t even like fish, and they have all loved it, so I highly recommend giving this a try! Salmon is a more expensive item, so I make this as a reward for finishing an assignment or accomplishing something new. I sometimes split the cost with my friends to make it together, so it works out cheaper!
Salmon Pasta Ingredients
To make this easy and delicious recipe, you will need:
- 1 salmon fillet (it’s also good without the fish if you’re vegetarian)
- single or double cream
- spaghetti (or linguine if you’re feeling fancy)
- garlic
- lemon juice
- broccoli
- salt and pepper
- chilli flakes (optional)
How to make it!
1. Firstly, add oil to a medium heat pan, and fry your chopped garlic and salmon fillet. At the same time, add your pasta and broccoli to a separate pan of boiling, salted water.

2. Once the salmon is cooked, (after roughly eight minutes) break it apart into smaller pieces, and add the cream and lemon juice. There are no measurements for this, just add as much as you feel you need, and keep tasting!

3. Season with salt and pepper, and add your drained pasta (plus a little pasta water) to the sauce once it’s cooked. At this stage, I usually add a bit more cream and lemon juice, until it is nice and saucy. Let it simmer on a medium heat for a few minutes.

4. Dish up your pasta, drain and serve your broccoli on the side, and add some chilli flakes for aesthetics! You will be served with a masterpiece that takes as little as 15 minutes to come together.
